Supporting a growing city with a dedicated bus layover space.
The Tauranga Public Transport Operations Facility is a purpose built off-street space for buses to layover between trips, helping to free up parking and improve public transport efficiency. Located at the corner of Spring and Durham Streets, the facility will accommodate up to 12 buses and provide essential amenities for drivers.
This project is part of a broader effort to support Tauranga’s growth and urban transformation, ensuring a reliable public transport network.
Tauranga’s increasing population requires modern public transport solutions that improve service reliability and reduce the impact of buses parking on busy streets. This facility will:
- Reduce bus congestion by centralising layovers off-street
- Support bus drivers with dedicated rest facilities
- Free up on-street parking for residents, businesses, and visitors
While public transport infrastructure is typically led by local councils, Bay of Plenty Regional Council is delivering this project to address an immediate need for a dedicated bus layover space.
At the same time, Tauranga City Council is upgrading the Durham Street bus stops, contributing to a modern, well-connected transport hub for the city centre.
